UKS Dan Grade Profiles

 

Shihan Philip Finch started practicing Karate-do in 1987 at Maidenhead Shotokai under the guidance of Vincent Strachan and was graded to 1st Dan by Billy Haggerty and Colin Reeve in 1992. Phil continued his study of Shotokai Karate-do over the years and was awarded his 5th Dan in 2003 and then recognised as attaining the status of Master in 2008 by Colin Reeve.

Phil was the Club leader for Ascot Shotokai (HQ Shotokai College) from 2000 until– 2005 and held the position of Technical executive within the Shotokai College for 10 years until setting up his own independent Shotokai group together with his wife Lisa in 2009 (UK Shotokaido) based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Phil has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to develop his own practice ideas and thoughts over the past 26 years not only from Karate-do but also taking influences from other areas such as Tai Chi and Aikido. He has also had the opportunity to teach at practices and courses both in the UK and abroad, enabling him to help develop some unique practice methods by which to continue his exploration of Shotokai Karate-do.

​Lisa Finch began practicing Karate in 1997 at Ascot Shotokai and very quickly became involved in the running of the club, its Beginners Programmes and played an active role in the overall organisation through her position on its Committee.

Graded to 1st Dan in 2000 she is a committed practitioner both in the dojo and behind the scenes and in 2006 was instrumnetal in starting the Wokingham Club together with her husband Phil. Lisa was rewarded with her 5th Dan in 2008 and is now a key member of UK Shotokaido and senior teacher within the organisation.

Annette Nethercott Started practicing karate-do in 1997 at Lincoln and joined the Shotokai College in 2000.  In 2002 while still a 1st kyu, brown belt Annette took over the running of Lincoln Shotokai,  later that year she was awarded her 1st Dan by Colin Reeve.  Annette continued to develop her karate skills and lead and grow Lincoln Shotokaido developing both a successful Adult and Junior membership which continues to go from strength to strength. Annette was awarded her 4th Dan by the Shotokai College in 2011. in recognition of her dedication and development.



Annette has always striven to improve herself as well as develop others and has been on 3 Mastery Programmes and has been awarded Teacher Leaderships twice during her time with the College. 

In 2012, Annette, along with all the members of the Lincoln club joined forces with Phil & Lisa Finch; Wokingham Shotokaido to form Lincoln Shotokaido. Annette brings great experience and strength to the UKS organistaion.

Lorraine Tapper Started practicing Karate-do at Lincoln Shotokai in 2006 after being inspired by watching her son practicing with Annette Nethercott. In 2009 she was awarded her 1st Dan by Colin Reeve.  Loraine Continued to practice and develop her skills whilst also becoming a valued member of the Lincoln club and she was awarded her 3rd Dan in 2011 by the Shotokai College.



Lorraine has been instrumental in helping Annette over the last few years with the running and development of Lincoln Shotokai. 

Loraine is dedicated and passionate about her practice and is now looking forward to the future with Lincoln Shotokaido and working closely with Phil & Lisa at Wokingham Shotokaido and the UKS to grow and enhance the club and develop her karate on a personal level.

Nigel Chew started practicing karate-do in 2000 at Lincoln after his son had expressed an interest in Martial Arts following a karate demonstration at a school fete.  After looking at various different clubs and styles Nigel Joined Lincoln Shotokai only for a few weeks to help his son settle in.  He fell in love with karate and was awarded his 1st Dan in 2009.

 

Nigel continues to inspire and be inspired by karate and is excited about the future by joining Phil and Lisa so that he can develop personally along with Lincoln Shotokaido.

Dawn Fear started practicing karate-do in 2009 at Lincoln and has been dedicated to her training ever since. Dawn is a regular at both evening practice sessions and at all of the weekend courses she can get to. Dawn was awarded her 1st Dan in 2014.

Dawn is also a valuable and dedicated member of the Lincoln team helping people where ever she can.

Tracy Redman started practicing Shotokai karate-do in 2014 at Wokingham Shotokai, Tracy brings with her a wealth of experience to the club, Tracy was awarded her 1st Dan in 2017, Tracy also holds a Dan Grade in Shotokan Karate.

 

Tracy is a dedicated member of the Wokingham Club and helps to guide and encourage others within the club.

Darren Langshaw started practicing in 2014 at Wokingham Shotokai, having previously trained with Les Lacey at Langley Shotokai many years ago, Darren made the decision to get back into it, and has not looked back since. He was awarded his 1st Dan in 2017 and continues to enjoy and improve his practice

Darren is a dedicated member of the Wokingham Club and helps to guide and encourage others within the club, he also encourages others to join and has been instrumental in introducing new members to the Wokingham club.
